Bonfire, Fireworks and Antisocial Behaviors
Week Beginning: 20/10/25
Today, we were thrilled to welcome the Offerton Fire and Rescue Team into school for an engaging and insightful session on bonfire and firework safety. The firefighters spoke passionately about the importance of celebrating responsibly, including how to avoid antisocial behaviour during the festivities.
The children listened attentively as they learned:
-
Why wearing gloves when handling sparklers helps prevent burns.
-
The importance of keeping a bucket of water nearby to safely extinguish used sparklers and fireworks.
-
That fireworks should always be used under adult supervision.
-
Never to relight a firework that doesn’t go off — instead, wait and soak it in water.
-
How to contact the fire service in an emergency, and why hoax calls can put lives at risk.
After the talk, the children had the exciting opportunity to explore the fire engine, discover its equipment, and even see the hose and siren in action! It was a fantastic learning experience that helped everyone understand how to stay safe while having fun this bonfire season.
