What a lovely packed week we’ve had in Reception!
This week our focus text was The Gingerbread Man. We enjoyed created play dough gingerbread men and conducted a floating and sinking experiment inspired by the story! We tested different objects in our class - a car, Numicon, foam blocks, a boat and more – and thought about what would float/sink and why. We recorded our results on a whiteboard. At the end, we floated a gingerbread man biscuit on a block to pretend it was like the one in the story on the foxes back!
Reception learnt so much this week in RE:
Firstly we learnt about how the parish church is a special place. We looked at pictures of stained glass windows and the different things they show us. After this we used some blocks and made our own model of a church. We added in coloured blocks to be the stained glass windows, people inside who attended the church and a cross.
Later in the week we spoke about how Jesus wants our church to be like a community and our school is also a community. We talked about what it means to live as a family and things we do together in church.
Some of the children then created their own family picture from buttons. We also did self portraits and remembered that our class is a family. 💛
We enjoyed a dry forest school session filled with bug hunts and seed planting.
After watching the journey from caterpillar to butterfly over the last few weeks, we set our 5 butterflies free! We have absolutely loved watching the process happen 🐛🦋
