Week beginning 12/10/26
This week, in RE, we explored the Nicene Creed and developed our understanding of the Christian belief that Jesus established a new covenant, restoring humanity’s relationship with God. We made links between this belief, the Nicene Creed and John’s Gospel (1:1–5, 16–18), considering how both texts help Christians understand who Jesus is and why he came.
In History, we continued our learning about the Ancient Maya civilisation. We discovered how the Maya developed their own written language using glyphs, with some representing whole meanings and others representing sounds. We also explored their fascinating number system, which used a base-20 structure and included a symbol for zero, as well as learning about the three different calendars they used.
In Science, we investigated how plants can be classified according to their physical characteristics, focusing on the differences between flowering and non-flowering plants. We also explored the important role flowers play in attracting insects for pollination. As scientists, we practised asking relevant questions, planning enquiries and making careful observations to help us develop our understanding.
In PE, we continued to develop our skills and teamwork across two sports. In dodgeball, we focused on officiating and developing our confidence in refereeing a game. In rugby, we applied the rules, skills and tactics we have been practising to compete in a tournament, demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship and an understanding of the game.
