Week beginning 28/09/26

We have had another busy and exciting week of learning in Year 6!

In Writing, we have continued exploring our class text, One Day by Michael Rosen. We have spent time thinking carefully about the events and themes within the story and have begun preparing for our upcoming letter-writing unit. We will be writing in role as Eugene, considering his thoughts, feelings and experiences to help us create thoughtful and persuasive letters.

We also enjoyed taking part in National Poetry Day. This year's theme was Wonder, and we used our imagination to transform ordinary objects into something extraordinary. We wrote poems that encouraged readers to look at everyday items in new ways and discover the wonder hidden within the world around us.

A real highlight of our week was an inspiring visit from author Philippa Leathley, who spoke to us about her book Inkbound: Meticulous Jones and the Skull Tattoo. We loved hearing about her journey as a writer and learning more about the creative process behind her stories. Her visit encouraged us to embrace our own creativity and gave us plenty of ideas for our own writing.

In Maths, we have been revisiting and strengthening our understanding of key number concepts. We recapped factors, multiples, prime numbers, and square and cube numbers, applying our knowledge through a range of challenges and problem-solving activities.

In RE, we looked closely at Laudato Si' and explored Pope Francis' message about caring for our common home. We reflected on what it means to be a steward of God's creation and discussed the ways we can show responsibility, respect and care for the world around us.

We are very proud of the creativity, thoughtfulness and enthusiasm we have shown in our learning this week. Well done, Year 6! 🌟
