Our Learning

This week in RE our learning was centred around the Christmas story, focusing specifically on the dramatic moment the angel visited the shepherds. We explored who the shepherds were, where they were sleeping, and their reaction to seeing the angel. We discussed big feelings like surprise and wonder.

In literacy, we used the tales toolkit, aspects of character and setting, to break down the story. Children drew and talked about the characters (shepherds, angels) and the setting (dark field, bright sky) to build storytelling skills and vocabulary.

The excitement is building as we begin practising for our Nativity play! We are focusing on learning songs and actions.

In maths, we further developed our understanding of patterns by learning ABCABC sequences using blocks, and natural materials. We practised identifying the three repeating items and predicting what comes next. We looked at and fixed a broken "mistake" in a pattern and challenged the children to spot the error and fix it, explaining why it was wrong and how to make it right.
