Nursery Learning Overview
Over the past few weeks, the children have been engaging in a wide range of exciting activities across all areas of learning. Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to:
Maths
-
Matching Number Shapes: We explored Numicon by copying pictures
-
Numicon Picture Making: Children enjoyed using Numicon shapes creatively to build pictures while reinforcing number shapes.
-
Peg Boards: We developed fine motor skills and pattern recognition by making pictures on peg boards, following pattern cards.
-
Sorting Socks: A fun matching activity that helped children identify pairs, colours, and patterns.
-
Number Rhyme – 5 Little Ducks: Through singing and actions, we explored early subtraction in a playful, engaging way.
Religious Education
-
We are learning the importance of looking after ourselves and others, showing kindness and care.
-
Children are beginning to understand simple religious practices such as making the Sign of the Cross, showing reverence and an awareness of prayer.
Understanding the World
-
Healthy Eating: We explored healthy and unhealthy foods by sorting food items, and discussed what helps us grow strong and stay healthy.
-
Fruit Tasting: the children tasted a variety of fruits, discussing texture, taste, and preference.
-
Fruit Printing: A creative activity that linked art with nature as we used different fruits to make colourful prints.
-
Exercise: Children participated in movement sessions that promoted physical well-being and an understanding of the importance of staying active.
Phonics
-
Body Percussion: We had great fun using different parts of our bodies to make sounds — clapping, stamping, tapping, we passed these sounds around the circle.
-
We sang rhymes which use movement for example, heads, shoulders, knees and toes.
