04. Week Beginning 21/09/26

This week in PSHE, the Year 4 children have been learning about growing and changing during puberty. The children learnt the correct terminology for body parts, including genitalia, and explored some of the physical and emotional changes they may experience as they grow older.

We discussed how everyone develops at their own pace and that, during puberty, children may experience changes such as getting taller, becoming stronger and more muscular, developing wider hips or broader shoulders, and growing hair under the arms and around the pubic area. We also discussed the development of facial hair and how our bodies gradually change as we mature. Alongside these physical changes, we explored some of the emotional changes that can occur, including mood swings and experiencing a wider range of emotions.

The children approached this learning with maturity, respect and a positive attitude. They listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated a growing understanding of the importance of looking after their bodies, respecting themselves and others, and recognising that everyone’s journey through puberty is different.

During our prayer time, the children had the opportunity to thank God for watching over us as we grow and change, and for loving us throughout every stage of our lives. We reflected on the reassurance that God is with us every step of the way as our bodies, emotions and relationships develop and change.
