Our Learning
We have had an incredibly busy and exciting week in the nursery.
Understanding Our World: St Peter's Church
As part of our RE we discussed how we belong to a community. We looked closely at photographs showing both the inside and outside Our Parish Church, St Peter's. We talked about what we saw, we built a model of a Church, and then we labelled some of the key features they recognised. We made some prayers and shared them during our class, Celebration of the Word.
We read The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children brought the story to life in multiple creative ways. We actively role-played the story and used small-world figures to recreate the "trip-trapping" across the bridge. Using our Tales Toolkit framework, we broke the story down into its 4 distinct parts (Character, Setting, Problem, and Solution). The children then practised mark-making and writing letters to scribe their own meaning onto their work!
In maths, we started to explore 3D shapes. The children have been learning to identify and name a cube, cuboid, cylinder, and sphere. We tested our senses using a "feely bag" to guess shapes by touch alone, and we put our engineering skills to work by constructing towers and bridges out of solid shapes.
We had an absolute blast during our Forest School session this week, focusing on sensory exploration and teamwork. There was so much laughter! The children went digging in the mud, then experimented with crushing and adding different coloured chalks. They mixed it all together to create their own outdoor paints! We used our custom mud paint to decorate tyres and large sheets of clear film wrapped around the posts. We tested our strength and cooperation with a high-energy game of tug-of-war!
