Our Learning
We have had another week packed with prehistoric adventures and foundational skills! Here is a summary of what the children have been exploring:
Expressive Art & Design
The children brought dinosaurs to life by transforming simple paper plates into their very own prehistoric creatures. This activity allowed them to practice fine motor skills through cutting, sticking, and decorating.
Mathematics
Our focus has been on sequencing—the ability to put events in the correct order. We practiced this by:
- Ordering the events of the Incy Wincy Spider rhyme.
- Discussing our daily morning routines (getting up and ready).
- Learning the chronological stages of the life cycle of a butterfly.
Phonics
We have been reinforcing all previously learnt phonemes and introduced the new sound 'n'. The children are now beginning to blend these sounds together to read some simple CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant), which is a major milestone in their reading journey. We have been working hard on our listening skills by sorting pictures by their initial sounds.
Understanding the World
We dived deep into dinosaur environments using small-world play. The children used natural materials to build habitats, helping them imagine what the world looked like millions of years ago while developing their storytelling and social language.
This week the children were so excited as they enjoyed a visit from Animal Magic giving them a hands-on opportunity to meet and learn about a variety of fascinating reptiles and other small animals.
