A warm welcome to the next fun-filled leg of the journey in Year 5!
The adults in our class include myself, Miss Charles the class teacher, I have been teaching at St Simon’s since September 2016 and am a former St Simon’s pupil! In Year Five we are also lucky to have a team of experienced support staff that includes Mrs Heath our class TA and Mrs Livingstone an LSA.
We are about to begin the next exciting journey in Year Five – We are about to explore Sensational South America in our Geography lessons, which will include learning about the different countries that make up this vibrant continent, Additionally, we will be looking at some of the products that travel from South America to Britain and learning about the production of these products. We will be using our imaginations to create our own civilisations in Literacy, which will hopefully inspire some fantastic Art work in Year Five.
PE takes place on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Both indoor and outdoor kits should be sent in with the children. We will be playing Rounders and Cricket outside - weather permitting!
It is recommended that children read for 20 minutes every evening and record this in their reading records. The reading records will be collected in on a Tuesday and Friday so they can be checked by Mrs Heath in order for us to monitor the children’s reading – Library books can be changed any day at the school library.
- Maths and English homework will continue to be handed out on a Friday and has to be returned by Wednesday at the latest.
- Children will be given 10 spelling word to learn on a Monday and will be tested on these words the following Monday.
There will be opportunities for the children to take part in topic based challenges throughout the year too and these will be given on Class Dojo.
The school uses Class Dojo as a way to encourage a growth mindset in our pupils, as well as being an opportunity for you to contact me about any query you may have.
Looking forward to more amazing adventures in learning with Year Five!
