RE Curriculum
At St Simon’s Catholic Primary School, Religious Education is the core subject at the heart of our curriculum. It underpins all learning, shaping how our children understand themselves, relate to others, and experience God’s love in the world.
In line with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, our RE curriculum follows the Religious Education Directory: To Know You More Clearly, rooted in Jesus’ words from John’s Gospel: "I am the vine; you are the branches" (John 15:5). Just as branches draw life from the vine, our children are invited to remain rooted in Christ—growing spiritually, morally, and intellectually as they discover their place in God’s story.
Through six structured branches of study across the academic year, our pupils explore Scripture, Catholic tradition, prayer, and Catholic Social Teaching. We aim to nurture curious, reflective learners who can articulate their faith, appreciate the beliefs of others, and put Gospel values into action every day.
This rich framework guides our pupils through a progressive journey of faith from EYFS through Key Stage 2:
-
The Vine: Jesus Christ, who forms the source of our strength, knowledge, and purpose.
-
The Branches: Our pupils, who remain connected to Him through prayer, learning, and loving service, bear good fruit in our school and wider community.
Through engaging scripture studies, big philosophical questions, and opportunities for creative reflection, our RE curriculum helps every child flourish into the person God created them to be.
