Year 5 Class Page
A warm welcome to the next fun-filled leg of the journey in Year 5!

The adults in our class include myself, Miss Charles the class teacher, I have been teaching at St Simon’s since September 2016 and am a former St Simon’s pupil! In Year Five we are also lucky to have a team of experienced support staff that includes, Mrs Heath our class TA and Mrs Livingstone an LSA.

We are about to begin the next exciting journey in Year Five – We are about to enter into the world of the Villainous Vikings, looking at how the Vikings lived and some of the gruesome battles they took part in. Linking to our topic of Vikings, we will be reading the book How to Train Your Dragon in Literacy and designing our own dragons to help up with our writing! Fingers crossed, Year Five will be going on a trip to help with our Science topic of Earth and Space.

PE takes place on a Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday the children will need their swimming kits to go swimming (This will be the case until the end of the spring term). On Wednesday the children will need their school PE kits.

It is recommended that children read for 20 minutes every evening and record this in their reading records. The reading records will be collected in on a Tuesday and Friday so they can be checked by Mrs Heath in order for us to monitor the children’s reading – Library books can be changed any day at the school library.

- Maths and English homework will be handed out on a Friday and is to be returned by Wednesday at the latest.
- Children will be given 10 spelling words to learn on a Monday and will be tested on these words the following Monday.

Class Dojo.

There will be opportunities for the children to take part in topic based challenges throughout the year too and these will be given on Class Dojo. The school uses Class Dojo as a way to encourage a growth mindset in our pupils, as well as being an opportunity for you to contact me about any query you may have.
